Queensland Election 2017: Southport MP Rob Molhoek ordered to take down signs of Councillor Dawn Crichlow

FIRST it was Borobi – now Queensland MP Rob Molhoek has fallen foul of another Gold Coast icon, using their picture without consent, and once again he’s been ordered to pull down his campaign posters.

FIRST it was Borobi.

Now Southport MP Rob Molhoek has fallen foul of another Gold Coast icon.

A week after being chastised for unauthorised use of Borobi images in his election campaign material, Mr Molhoek has come under fire again for featuring pictures of veteran Gold Coast City councillor Dawn Crichlow in an apparent ringing endorsement of his election prospects.

A furious Councillor Crichlow yesterday demanded any election signs bearing her photo be destroyed.

The poster showed an Instagram photo of Mr Molhoek and Councillor Crichlow with a glowing tribute attributed to the fiery Southport councillor.

“Rob always worked hard to represent the people of Southport and has the best interests of the Gold Coast at heart,” Councillor Crichlow is quoted as saying.

However, Councillor Crichlow denied endorsing Mr Molhoek, or any other candidate in the looming election.

“I don’t endorse anybody in politics, I’ve got no feelings for politicians whatsoever," she said.

“I don’t trust them.

“He should have had the decency to ask me.”

By late yesterday the sign outside The Southport School had been removed.

Mr Molhoek said he was happy to remove the sign, but was puzzled by the councillor’s reaction as she had previously signed a talent release form permitting the use of her image by Mr Molhoek’s office.

“I’m surprised she has taken exception to it,” he said.

“There was only one sign and now it’ll go straight to the pool room.”

It comes just a fortnight after Mr Molhoek was ordered to remove election signs displaying photos of Borobi, the cute and cuddly koala mascot of the Commonwealth Games.

GOLDOC ordered the signs be destroyed because they breached intellectual property rights.

“Borobi and I have since parted company,” he said.
