GREENS leader Richard Di Natale is hoping the party’s win in Victoria’s Northcote by-election will be repeated in Queensland as he helps the party campaign ahead of Saturday’s poll.
“I’m feeling the same sort of energy that we had in Northcote in the lead up to that by-election,” Senator Di Natale said during a doorstop in the South Brisbane electorate this morning.
“Increasingly people are saying we need a genuine alternative to politics as usual.
“There is no question that Adani is shaping up as one of the cental issues of this election campaign.”
Senator Di Natale seized on further reports the mine had secured Chinese money to go ahead to ram home his message against the mine.
“Why are we looking at supporting a mine that will now be funded by the Chinese Government. This is remarkable.”
Greens candidate Amy MacMahon is hoping to wrest the seat from Labor Deputy Premier Jackie Trad.
The Greens have been campaigning hard against the Government over the Adani coal mine in the hopes they can ride the sentiment against the mine in southeast Queensland to victory.
She has pledged to try and stop the mine from going ahead should she win a seat.
But Ms MacMahon would need to hold the balance of power before she had any hope of forcing the Government to revoke the approvals given to the Indian miner.
