NEW bridges could be built over the Brisbane River under an LNP plan to win city voters.
Party leader Tim Nicholls pledges to spend $3 million for a study to determine where new crossings could be built across the river.
Links between Bulimba and Teneriffe, Balmoral and Hamilton and West End and Toowong are among those expected to be included in the study.
The RACQ this year released a study of new bridges needed in the River City and has called for options to be explored, including a “triple jump” which would link the CBD, Kangaroo Point, New Farm and Hawthorne with a series of crossings.
“You only have to look at how busy the Victoria Bridge, Goodwill Bridge and Story Bridge are with cars, pedestrians and cyclists to see that we need more vital river infrastructure,” Mr Nicholls said.
“This is why an LNP Government I lead will invest $3 million to begin planning for the future and identify projects which complement the Brisbane River.
“We need to plan for the future now, so Brisbane remains a liveable city for both locals and tourists to enjoy for generations to come.”
The bridges would cater for pedestrians and cyclists as well as ease congestion for motorists, Mr Nicholls said.
“There is increasing development and population growth in our river city and we will undertake this study to determine how future infrastructure can best meet this growth.”
