THE LNP will reallocate about $2.5 billion set aside by Labor for Cross River Rail to other projects to help pay for more than $4.3 billion worth of election commitments should it win power on Saturday.
Opposition Treasury Spokesman Scott Emerson handed down the Party’s election costings this afternoon.
He revealed a further $2.335 billion would be reallocated from more than 20 current government programs including $42 million from Skilling Queenslanders for Work and $150 million from a program to transfer 17-year-olds out of adult prisons.
A new virtual racing product fee will also be introduced to raise about $7.5 million in fees from UBET in 2018/19.
It followed an agreement signed by the former Newman government with UBET in 2014.
A new cash bidding process will be introduced for some resource tenures in a move expected to raise about $9.52 million over two years.
The LNP would also undertake a “whole of government” efficiency program to claw back about $1.63 billion over three years.
Mr Emerson promised no forced redundancies as part of that and no changes to the current voluntary redundancy arrangements.
Debt would still reach more than $80 billion by 201/21 under the LNP but they have promised to pay down about $403 million more.
“The LNP is not walking away from Cross River Rail but we won’t be rushing through a $15 billion project because Labor wants to save a few seats in inner-city Brisbane,” Mr Emerson said.
“We’re going to ask government departments to save less than one cent out of every dollar they spend.
“This is an achievable and responsible approach which means we can reinvest extra funding to benefit Queenslanders.”
