A MAN has been charged after threats of violence were allegedly made against Springwood LNP candidate Julie Talty and her family.
The 53-year-old was slapped with the charge after police allege Ms Talty was confronted while parked in her branded vehicle on Shailer Rd in Shailer Park last Monday.
The man, who was driving a Toyota ute when he pulled in behind Ms Talty’s car, sat in the vehicle while his passenger allegedly confronted Ms Talty. He accused her of stealing election signs.
Ms Talty claimed she was warned her husband’s legs would be broken if signs were stolen again.
“He was swearing, he was abusive,” Ms Talty said.
“I was really shocked. I didn’t think it would affect me that badly but I was shaking like a leaf afterwards.”
Ms Talty reported the confrontation to police on Monday.
Detectives charged the 53-year-old with threats of violence on Thursday but are still looking for the passenger of the vehicle.
The 53-year-old, who was unable to be reached for comment, is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on December 5.
A Labor spokesman said the party did not condone “any violent behaviour.”
“The ALP is unaware of any Labor campaigner subject to these allegations but will investigate the matter further should details be provided,” the spokesman said.
