A LABOR campaign organiser in Deputy Premier Jackie Trad’s South Brisbane electorate has been forced to delete an image of a penis from his Twitter account.
The photo was posted on Mark Woodley’s Twitter page — @markwoodley1 — on November 16.
Mr Woodley, a volunteer, has insisted to party leaders he was unaware of the image and believes his account was hacked.
The image was removed minutes after the Bulletin inquired with Ms Trad’s office about the image yesterday.
Mr Woodley, a “field organiser”, is understood to be a close personal friend of Ms Trad’s and has been instrumental in organising her doorknocking campaign.
It is understood their sons play junior soccer together and Mr Woodley is involved in a coaching capacity.
The scandal is a major blow to the embattled Deputy Premier who faces being unseated by The Greens’ Amy MacMahon in South Brisbane.
A Courier-Mail Galaxy Poll published this month showed Ms MacMahon winning the seat 51 per cent to 49 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis.
Mr Woodley’s Twitter account was predominantly inactive until eight days ago when he replied to tweets about dwindling support that was threatening Ms Trad’s inner-Brisbane seat.
Mr Woodley has just five followers on Twitter, including former Labor prime minister Julia Gillard. The account follows numerous Labor leaders including Ms Trad, Treasurer Curtis Pitt and State Secretary Evan Moorhead.
Requests for comment from Ms Trad were referred to Mr Moorhead yesterday.
“The first he was aware of the photo was a result of media queries,” a Labor spokesman said. “The tweet was deleted as soon as he became aware of its existence. He has changed all of his social media passwords as a result.” The Twitter account was later closed.
Mr Moorhead did not answer questions about repercussions for Mr Woodley.
At Ms Trad’s campaign launch on Friday night, Mr Woodley was among the first people thanked for his support and assistance.
“To Mark Woodley, my field organiser,” she said.
“He is a classic organiser in every sense of the word.”
