Skippy’s daring swim across Noosa River caught on camera
A kangaroo has stunned a kayaker by paddling solo in the Noosa River despite sharks lurking nearby, with a theory created regarding the reason behind the animal’s efforts.
A Sunshine Coast fishing and cooking lifestyle channel has shared an epic video of a kangaroo slowly paddling across the Noosa River to reach the other side.
The Hook and The Cook channel posted two videos on their Facebook page showing a large kangaroo, who the cameraman, Paul Breheny, dubbed ‘Skippy’, paddling across the Noosa River.
The video shows the cameraman on a kayak slowly approaching a kangaroo in the water.
As the camera zooms in from a distance, the kangaroo’s head and back can be seen slightly above the water’s surface as it appears to sway in a paddling motion.
“Go Skippy,” Mr Breheny said.
“Good one, Skip.”
He commented on the kangaroo’s impressive swimming skills and noted he had spotted a large shark in the water not too long ago.
Upon nearing the shore, the kangaroo can be seen wading through the shallow water on all four paws before reaching the sand and hopping into the bushland.
Paul stated in the comments of the video the kangaroo had hopped into the water by Makepeace Island by itself, with nothing seemingly chasing or scaring the animal.
He said he had remained well away from the kangaroo and instead zoomed in with his camera.
“ … a couple of the boys on the river, who like me are local fishos, said they had seen him do it before,” Paul wrote.
“I reckon he’s got a couple of girls on both sides.”
Mr Breheny has launched a new YouTube channel called Reel Bites Australia.
