Wet weather could rain on South East Queensland’s grand final parade, with showers and potential thunderstorms expected for Brisbane’s AFL finals celebrations.

Blue skies have begun to peek through the storm clouds in Brisbane after a night of widespread rainfall.

Tambourine Mountain and the Gold Coast region recorded up to 50mm overnight with some Brisbane suburbs had 30 to 40mm.

Albany Creek copped 26mm and parts of Logan also reached the 20mm mark overnight.

But the Bureau of Meteorology’s Daniel Hayes said while rain would taper off into Friday afternoon, it is expected to pick up into Saturday morning.

“We’ve also got this front pushing up the New South Wales coast, and that’s expected to make its way up towards the southeast as well through this morning,” the meteorologist explained.

“That’s coming through with that front coming together to form a low-pressure system just off the SEQ coast... so we continue to see at least some shower activity associated with that through into tomorrow as well, more likely through later in the morning and into the afternoon.”

Mr Hayes said shower activity was expected to hit 20mm over the next 24 hours across the southeast.

Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming along both the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast on Friday and Saturday.

A gale warning was also issued over the Gold Coast waters for Friday and Saturday.
