Scaffold collapses under Albert Rail bridge

Part of a scaffold has collapsed underneath a rail bridge in Brisbane’s west.

Train speed restrictions have been lifted after a scaffold collapse underneath the Albert rail bridge on Tuesday night.

A major component of the scaffold gave way above the Indooroopilly Riverwalk at Chelmer, in Brisbane’s west, just before 7.15pm.

While they were managing the situation, she said there was not much crews could do other than maintain scene safety.

“There was a construction site that had been erected under the bridge for painting, which then collapsed … we’re just waiting for the arrival of the scaffolding company to take over,” she said late on Tuesday.

Queensland Rail Head of South East Queensland Scott Riedel said the scaffolding belonged to a third party contractor.

“Queensland Rail is working with the contractor and emergency services to rectify this issue as soon as possible and will investigate how the incident occurred,” he said.

Trains were delayed overnight after speed restrictions were put in place around the collapse.

Those restrictions were lifted on Wednesday morning with all services in the area running as normal.

“We are investigating it so it doesn’t happen again,” a Queensland Rail spokesperson said.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said no one was injured and paramedics did not attend.

The cause of the collapse is yet known.
