More than 11,000 Courier-Mail readers have had their say in two concurrent polls, voting on the Queensland border closure. SEE THE RESULTS

THOUSANDS of Queenslanders have had their say, with the majority voting to keep borders closed in light of Victoria’s recent COVID-19 outbreak.

The Courier-Mail ran two polls concurrent on Monday, attracting votes from more than 3000 subscribers and more than 8000 Facebook users in less than four hours.

With results almost 50/50 at 6pm on Monday on the subscriber poll, Facebook users were more decisive on the matter.

At the time of publication, 83 per cent of Facebook voters had chosen to keep the borders closed, with 17 per cent opposing the idea.

It comes as Australia’s peak doctors said the state would be justified if they had decided to prolong border closures, considering Victoria recorded 75 new COVID-19 cases on Monday.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will announce on Tuesday when restrictions will next be eased, possibly revealing when the borders will reopen.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who said there was no reason to keep the borders closed, with only two active virus cases in Queensland.

Many voters on the Facebook poll agreed that borders should reopen, with the exception of Victoria.

“I’m a Queenslander living in Melbourne and would love to come home to visit and escape the horrible winter down here but with the numbers coming out of Victoria keep those borders closed,” said Kylie Brown.

Edwina Kay said Victorians would flock to the sunshine state for the winter if they had the chance.

“Why risk our safety after we have done the right thing, borders should not reopen,” she said.

The consensus from those wanting Queensland to reopen to the rest of the country, was that the Queensland economy needed support.

“I understand not opening the borders,” said Sarah Robertson.

“But at least can’t everything in Queensland get opened ASAP!? Cinemas, bars and clubs.”
