A Queensland family have been left devastated after waking to find their Christmas display destroyed and stolen.
Just North of Brisbane in Deception Bay resident Andrew Tett said he was “shocked” to discover his Christmas decorations had been stolen from his home.
“I came out first thing in the morning and everything was destroyed. Someone had pinched all the lights,” he said.
Mr Tett does not believe anyone in his community is capable of committing the devastating act and suspects it was a random attack.
“Everyone around here love the lights, so I have no idea why they would do that,” he said.
Mr Tett has reported the theft and vandalism to authorities. A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed CCTV footage of the area was being sought.
“There were decorations all over the footpath and out on the street,” said Mr Tett, “Anything they couldn’t take off, they ripped down.”
With the price of electrical goods skyrocketing Mr Tett said he cannot afford to replace the decorations.
“It’s $1500 worth at least, it’s a few years of me accumulating bits and pieces. It’s pretty shocking really,” he said.
“I can’t afford to put that back together so I’ll just have to build that up again over a few years.”
In an act of defiance Mr Tett has left a sign outside his home, “Whoever stole my lights, karma will come, Merry Xmas”.
“I was pretty cranky, I could’ve written a few things on there. But karma works, karma will get them,” he said
