LABOR’S state secretary Evan Moorhead has resigned from the position, just weeks after steering the ALP’s election campaign to victory.
Mr Moorhead emailed party members this morning informing them of his decision.
Current Queensland Labor vice president Julie-Ann Campbell is tipped to take over the role.
Mr Moorhead finishes up on January 22.
In an email to members he described the role an honour but said he wanted to spend more time with his family including newborn son Tej.
“Leading the Party that I love has been the greatest honour of my working life,” he wrote.
“The election of Palaszczuk Labor governments in 2015 and 2017 sees the completion of the rebuilding project that commenced in 2012.
“While I love the role, it is time that I spent more time with my wife and two young boys.
“I want to thank ALP branch members, trade unions, Party Officials and Staff, Members of Parliament and Labor candidates for their support since joining State Office in 2012.
“Like every State Secretary, I hope that I have leave the Party in a stronger position than when I started.”
Assistant state secretary Jon Persley - who was behind Labor’s target seat campaigns in 2015 and in 2017 - has also been flagged as a potential replacement for Mr Moorhead.
But as a member of the Right faction, it is unlikely he would have the support of both the Left and the Old Guard needed to take over the role.
It is understood Mr Moorhead will stay on until the Morningside council ward by-election has been held before next year taking up a senior role in Annastacia Palaszczuk’s office.
