A severe heatwave warning for South East Queensland has been cancelled even as temperatures remain well into the 30s after 3pm.

The warning was cancelled at 2pm, even as the Bureau of Meteorology said low-intensity heatwave conditions would continue until early next week.

At 3.40pm, the temperature in Brisbane was 33.2C but felt like a sticky 36.5C.

Further out of Brisbane, it was 37.7C at Beaudesert and 36.9 at Amberley.

The march record for Brisbane is 37.9C.

Blackouts were reported earlier in the day as residents started to crank the aircon to stay cool.

According to Energex, there were unplanned outages in Boondall and Zillmere in Brisbane’s north and Wacol to the west.

On the Gold Coast, Energex was responding to an unplanned outage in Surfers Paradise.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Harry Clarke said there was light at the end of the tunnel, with temperatures to be lower tomorrow.

“It won’t be cool, but it will still be cooler than the temperatures seen today,” he said.
