Qld politics: David Crisafulli still enjoying honeymoon period, says poll

Latest polling reveals whether Premier David Crisafulli is still enjoying a honeymoon period nine months after he romped into office.

Premier David Crisafulli has maintained his popularity among Queenslanders, with new polling revealing he has held his election-winning lead in the polls nearly nine months into the job.

Queenslanders were asked at the beginning of the month who they would vote for if an election if it was held today and results were clearly in LNP’s favour, meanwhile Labor saw their vote decline even further from its 2024 election result.

DemosAU polling of 1027 Queenslanders revealed LNP had extended its two-party lead over Labor to 55 to 45 per cent – still 1.2 points higher than last October’s election.

Mr Crisafulli and the LNP’s favourability remains significantly higher than Opposition Leader Steven Miles and Labor whose primary vote fell 4.6 points since the election to 28 per cent.

It follows a poll by Redbridge in March in which Mr Crisafulli rose to become Australia’s most popular politician.

The red wave that swept across Queensland in the federal election earlier this year was also reflected in polling, which saw Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Labor increase their state primary vote 4 points to 35 per cent.

DemosAU head of research George Hasanakos said both Mr Crisafulli and Mr Albanese were “enjoying honeymoon periods”.

“Crisafulli is holding on to his election-winning lead, even though his government’s first budget has not moved the dial much with the Queensland public,” he said.

“And the national picture for Albanese is looking even rosier, with a national two-party preferred vote which is very much at the high end for Labor.”

Conducted between July 4 and 9, the polling came after the state government handed down their first budget in 11 years.

For most Queenslanders there were no political sweeteners, with Treasurer David Janetzki instead focused solely on budget repair.

But, according to the polling, the no-frills budget hardly swayed the LNP’s popularity and rather Queenslanders indicated a largely neutral reaction.

More than 50 per cent remained impartial in their budget reaction and 43 per cent said Labor would not have produced a better budget.
