PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk has insisted she is trying to do the best she can for Queensland after Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington took aim at the way she dressed.

The LNP leader gave an interview with The Sunday Mail over the weekend, where she accused Ms Palaszczuk of deliberately changing her image and labelled her ‘Princess Palaszczuk’.

Responding to the comments today, Ms Palaszczuk told Nine News she was trying to do her best for the state.

“If she wants to be petty and nasty, I’m not going to get into it,” she said.

Ms Frecklington copped significant backlash today, with Deputy Premier Jackie Trad writing online that she was astonished by her comments.

“The last time I saw this level of meanness was actually in the movie Mean Girls,” she wrote.

Federal Labor Leader Anthony Albanese said the comments were “appalling, pathetic and unbecoming” of someone who wanted to run the state.

But LNP frontbencher Jarrod Bleijie came to Ms Frecklington’s defence, insisting he had long said Ms Palaszczuk was a “princess Premier”.

“She prefers the red carpet of Hollywood, the glitz, the glamour, the celebrities, the publicity stunts but has no idea of what’s actually happening in her government or state,” he wrote on Twitter.

In the wide-ranging interview with The Sunday Mail, Ms Frecklington said she had “no choice” but to remain grounded because of her husband and three children.

“I can have a tough day but then I’ll get a call from one of my kids and you’ve got to deal with whatever’s going on in their lives,” she said.

“She (the Premier), on the other hand, has had a complete makeover – all the makeup, the designer labels, it’s too much when there are bigger issues to focus on.”

Ms Frecklington today insisted that she was simply pointing out that her “real world experience” and kids kept her grounded.

“I won’t stand by and allow the Labor Party to try and twist the love I have for my kids for some warped political gain,” she said.

Federal Labor MP Terri Butler today noted that Ms Palaszczuk had previously spoken openly about her four years of IVF and her battle with endometriosis.

In a Twitter post, liked by Liberal NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, she wrote: “Attacking her for not being a Mum is a low act & the LNP should know better.”
