A well-known, popular Noosa hinterland distillery is set to undergo a major transformation and expand with a new bigger “barn-style” hall.

Plans for an expansion at Pomona Distilling Co, at 18 Reserve St in Pomona, were first lodged with the Noosa Council in 2022, outlining the venue’s intention to expand the much-loved distillery to include more dining space and a car park.

The venue was granted approval for the original expansion in January 2023, however, their most recent application submitted to the council last week revealed the venue is now hoping to go even bigger with its “smoke hall”.

The distillery was first opened at the site of the historical Pomona Bakery in December 2019 by Noosa man Robin Yates and specialises in the distilling of gin and vodka.

The planning report stated the distillery was seeking council approval to change the existing design to a barn-style building with an improved layout and more space for customers.

“The proposed application seeks an approval to make minor changes to the existing approval by changing the design of the building to a barn style design with gable ends,” the planning report stated.

“The building will provide an improved layout for customer service, better weather protection, as well as being sympathetic to the traditional character of Pomona.”

The latest design, if approved, would be two metres taller than the original plans, reaching 6.7m, and increase the total floor space of the hall by 100sq m.

According to the planning report the car park and landscaping, approved in the initial application, will remain the unchanged by the new design.
