The weekend has seen another surge in fines for COVID-19 health breaches with Queensland Police issuing 61 infringements on Saturday.

THE weekend has seen another surge in fines for COVID-19 health breaches with Queensland Police issuing 61 infringements on Saturday.

The number of on-the-spot fines issued now equates to at least $1.9 million, or 1,415 infringement notices, since March 27.

The amount of fines handed out yesterday was the highest in a single day all week but nine fewer than last Saturday.

Police can issue on the spot fines of $1334 for individuals and $6672 for corporations which fail to abide by the health directions.

More than 4500 compliance checks have been carried out on people in quarantine. Police have conducted 6752 compliance checks on non-essential businesses.

More than 400 domestic airport passengers arrived into Queensland in the last 24 hours. Just over a 100 of them were directed to quarantine.

One person was refused entry into Queensland.

Twenty vehicles were turned around at state road borders while more than 1500 people were directed to quarantine.

“The Queensland Police Service is providing ongoing support to Queensland Health as part of a co-ordinated whole of government response to the COVID-19 situation,” a police statement said.

“An integral part of the QPS response is to ensure compliance with directions particularly around self-isolation, state borders, non-essential business activity, home confinement, movement and gathering.”
