A bus driver is lucky to be uninjured after a spear was thrown into a bus near Cairns on Saturday night.
The bus had pulled to a stop at the intersection of Grevillea and Mestrez streets in Mooroobool at around 6.15pm, when initial investigations suggest that a teenage boy approached the driver’s open window.
It is at this point that police say a boy threw the wooden spear through the window, narrowly missing the driver and lodging against the steering wheel.
Police say that the boy that threw the spear, who was part of a group of four boys, is described as First Nations in appearance and wearing a red shirt.
After throwing the spear, police say that the group fled south along Mestrez st.
The spear was seized by police for forensic analysis and investigations are ongoing.
