Second teenager charged over alleged Brisbane carjacking after first released on bail

A second teenager has been charged over an alleged armed carjacking in Brisbane, a day after a 17-year-old co-accused took to social media to mock police after he was released on bail.

A second person has been charged over an alleged armed carjacking in Brisbane.

An 18-year-old Redbank Plains man was arrested at an Indooroopilly address on Thursday.

He was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and one count each of armed robbery, enter dwelling and commit, attempted enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, trespass, possess dangerous drug.

The man was denied police bail and is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

Earlier, Queensland Police said they would appeal the court decision to release a 17-year-old boy who was also charged over the alleged armed carjacking.

The 17-year-old faced court on Wednesday where police opposed bail, but he was released with conditions.

The younger boy then took to social media to gloat, posting images on Snapchat mocking police, saying they had no evidence and he found the video of his arrest “cute”.

South Brisbane District Officer Acting Chief Superintendent Andrew Pilotto said police had started the process of an appeal.

“I can say we have engaged the Youth Justice special bail co-ordinator to look at an appeal for that matter,” he said.

“We have an avenue to appeal when we are not satisfied once we put forward some bail objections and the court does not accept our decision.”

Officers arrested the boy on Tuesday after he and another person allegedly carjacked a Bulimba father while brandishing a knife and shovel on Sunday.

Police allege the 17-year-old and another male approached Angelo Justus’ as he reversed his Audi A3 out of his home’s driveway in Bulimba about 2.20pm Sunday while armed.

Mr Justus complied with their demands to access his car after the pair allegedly threatened him with a knife and a shovel.

Police said the Audi was later found abandoned and undamaged on Elizabeth St in Stones Corner.

Investigations led to detectives from the Morningside Child Protection and Investigation Unit finding and arresting the 17-year-old at Gleneagle in the Scenic Rim Tuesday night.

In the arrest video, the arresting officer can be heard saying, “you are under arrest at the moment, you have got multiple warrants out and you’re wanted for questioning as well for burglary”.

The teenager was charged with one count each of armed robbery, possessing dangerous drugs and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

His police bail was refused Tuesday and he was scheduled to appear at the Brisbane Children’s Court at a later date.

Brisbane carjacking caught on CCTV

Mr Justus told The Courier-Mail the teenager and a second male were wearing balaclavas when they approached his car, while the vehicle they arrived in blocked the driveway.

He said three others remained in their car while the pair screamed profanities and demanded the keys.
