An Energex linesman’s partner has unleashed on social media after a handmade sign was left on a fallen tree and busted powerlines on the Gold Coast slamming the “disgusting” delay in repairs.

The person took to a community Facebook page to defend their partner and his colleagues after the handpainted sign was left at Elanora on the southern Glitter Strip, parts of which have been without power for almost a week.

According to the post, the sign read: “Where are you Energex DISGUSTING”.

“I’ll tell you where they are,” the linesman’s partner wrote.

“They have been working ridiculous hours, day and night in horrendously dangerous conditions. They are getting sick from working long hours being drenched and covered in mud.

“They come home at crazy hours for a cold shower, proud to get thousands of homes back on every day, and helping people with trees through their roofs and damaging flooding.

“They have a few hours sleep, and back at it again getting hospitals, schools, daycares, businesses and vulnerable community members back on prioritising what is most important including completely blocked roads with no access points.

“(To the person who made the sign) I hope you enjoyed the lovely family bonding time doing some arts and crafts. Be patient. We are lucky. Enjoy the extra 5 minute detour to get home with a car that hasn’t been crushed (by a fallen tree) or flooded.”

The post was signed off “from the partner of a linesman whose power has also been out since last Thursday and daughter who would love to see her daddy”.
