Shocked parents of students who attended the Catholic school where a teacher charged over child exploitation material worked say they are now having to have “awkward” conversations with their children about the matter to make sure nothing happened to them.

Christopher Inglis, 30, of Burpengary East, was an assistant principal at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School in Caboolture and was charged by police on April 12 after he allegedly filmed people in a public bathroom over multiple months last year.

Police will allege Inglis filmed people without their knowledge in public toilets in a shopping centre in Morayfield on multiple occasions from July to December, 2024.

Parents at the school have told the Courier-Mail they were horrified to learn the news of the charges.

Parent Anna, whose child left the school last year, said Inglis was at the school during her son’s schooling at St Peter’s.

“He was very well known, towards the end of the schooling, he was the assistant principal. He would run the assembly.”

“I was just shocked,” she said

She said parents with children who attended the school were having uncomfortable conversations with them in response to the news.

“Which is not a nice conversation to have … it’s not nice to even have to ask those questions.”

Anna said all the students at the school were talking about the charges and were even concerned for each other.

But despite the parents’ concerns, in a statement to the Courier-Mail, Brisbane Catholic Education said police had clarified the charges weren’t in relation to the school.

“Police have clarified that these charges are not related to the staff member’s work at the school,” he said.

“Staff and members of the school community have been informed of this matter.

“This staff member has been suspended from duties. The staff member will have no contact with the school and will not return to the school while this matter is before the courts,” the statement read.

Detectives from Argos and the Redcliffe Child Protection Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at a Burpengary East home on April 12, where they seized several digital devices and arrested Inglis.

The devices were forensically examined, and police allegedly located child exploitation material that had been downloaded, and multiple video recordings of people in a public bathroom.

He was charged with three counts of possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service, and one count each of using a carriage service to access child abuse material, and observations or recordings in breach of privacy.

He is next expected to front Caboolture Magistrates Court for a mention on June 12.
