Omeros Bros son faces $5.2m tax bill as ATO launches bid to bankrupt him

The son of a Gold Coast restaurant family is being sued over a $5.2 million tax bill.

A SCION of prominent Gold Coast restaurant family the Omeros Bros is in financial hot water over a $5.2 million tax bill.

Harry Omeros, 31, a father of two from Hope Island, is due in the Federal Circuit Court later this month, where the Australian Taxation Office has launched a bid to bankrupt him over taxes owing between 2011 and 2016.

According to a creditor’s petition filed on November 9, Omeros was served with a bankruptcy notice on July 20 and failed to comply by August 10.

The ATO sued him in the Supreme Court in Brisbane over unpaid taxes and he was ordered to pay $5.16 million on March 26.

When interest is added, the total bill comes to $5.2 million. Omeros did not defend the claim.

He is a member of the clan behind the Marina Mirage’s Omeros Bros seafood restaurant and a former owner of Oceans by Omeros at Surfers Paradise.

He is the son of Nick Omeros, who lives in a $3.5 million waterfront Sovereign Island trophy home and still runs the family restaurant.

Some of Harry’s former companies were registered to Nick’s home on the exclusive Knightsbridge Parade West.

Omeros Bros at Main Beach is rated the number two restaurant in the suburb by TripAdvisor.

His bankruptcy case is due in court on January 24.
