One of Queensland’s COVID-19 clusters has spread to NSW, Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed on Wednesday, with one new case recorded.

Byron Bay is on high alert with a new set of venues visited by a man infected with COVID-19.

NSW recorded one new case of COVID-19, premier Gladys Berejiklian said on Wednesday.

The case was recorded after 8pm and will be included in Thursday’s numbers.

The infectious person attended the same venue as a hen’s party in Byron Bay where positive cases in Queensland were recorded.

It is the first local case of COVID-19 in NSW since March 17, which was linked to a security guard who caught the virus from a quarantine hotel.

The new case was a man in his 20s who attended the Byron Beach Hotel with three of his friends.

He sat close to the QLD travellers who were infectious at the time but his three friends have returned negative results.

The first venue of concern is the Henry Rous Tavern at 117 River Street at Ballina on Sunday March 28 between 1.20pm and 2.20pm.

The second venue of concern is Ballina Golf and Sports Club (Pro Shop) on Jameson Avenue at East Ballina on the same day between 2:25pm and 2:35pm.

“We have identified some venues that he went to and can I reiterate, (the man) went there not knowing he had ever been exposed to COVID,” NSW chief medical officer Dr Kerry Chant said.

“If you attended those venues, please immediately self-isolate and get a test and we will be advising you after we have done that formal risk assessment.

“People who had signed into the Henry Rous Tavern in the vicinity of this gentleman would have been texted last night at 9pm and they would have been advised to take this action.”

It comes as two locally acquired cases were recorded in QLD overnight, both of which are linked to a cluster from a nurse at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Wednesday’s two new QLD cases are another nurse at the PA and her housemate.

The cluster now includes the original PA nurse and the international traveller who is believed to have given it to her, the nurse‘s sister, four guests at a hen’s party in Byron Bay and the Gold Coast tradie who was working at the party as an entertainer.

NSW Health has also listed a number of new casual contact venues associated with the QLD cluster:

  • Boards in the Bay, 12 Lawson Street, Saturday March 27, 12.40pm to 12.45pm
  • Byron Bay Central Pharmacy, 31 Jonson Street, Saturday March 27, 1.05pm to 1.10pm; Byron Bay
