Wild street fight in Mt Isa

Footage has emerged of an out of control street fight at Mount Isa with multiple kids involved.

The footage which was shared to social media shows a group of people ganging up on one person.

A person can then be seen falling onto the ground before multiple people stomp on them. The fight is captured on film for about two minutes with multiple stomps and punches to the person on the ground.

At the end of the video the person on the ground can still be seen crouching as people continue to stomp and punch.

The latest incident adds to the increasing problem in Mt Isa.

The Courier-Mail has exposed the growing crime issue in the region, with youth gangs previously reported to be holding local residents hostage.

Youths had even taken over a hill in town – dubbed ‘Rexona Hill’ – dedicated to dangerous chroming, and many lived in complete poverty in a suburb people labelled ‘The Bronx’

Police data showed the rate of crime for the small population of 18,000 was the worst in the state.

In May 2024 the overall crime rate in Mt Isa was more than 4000 offences per 100,000 people.

Townsville, previously dubbed the state’s crime capital, had the second highest crime rate of 1541 offences per 100,000 people, followed by the Far North with 1473 offences per 100,000.

QPS data from May 2025 shows the number of all offences across Mt Isa has risen steeply since Covid.

In 2010 the number of offences recorded was 9071 – that has jumped every year since to 13,731 in 2024.

So far there has been 4078 offences in 2025.

The number of assaults, in particular, has risen, with 990 recorded in 2020 and 3060 in 2024.
