An Australian motorbike rider has become the first person to complete the world’s first double backflip on a pier, achieving the feat in Queensland.

Motorbike rider Harry Bink successfully completed the world’s first double backflip on a pie at the Redcliffe Jetty in front of a huge crowd this morning.

In the lead up to the stunt, Bink base jumped out of a helicopter landing on Moreton Island, caught a ride to shore with The Mad Hueys in their boat before hopping on his motorbike to perform the stunt.

Bink said he was pumped to achieve the feat at Redcliffe, which will host the return of the Fox Australian Supercross Championship to Queensland at Kayo Stadium on October 12.

“To do it here on the jetty, it was so gnarly,” Bink said.

“When I did the first rotation because we’re on the jetty, I felt like I was so high in the air, I was looking down at the water and it just also I just felt like I was like three times higher in the air than I usually do it.

“To have everyone here watching it, it was mental.”

Fox Australian Supercross Championship director Kelly Bailey expects the event will deliver a sell-out crowd for the first race of the year.

“Our Queensland fans have been patiently waiting and we’re thrilled to return the championship to Queensland where we’ve always been so incredibly supported with an established fanbase,” Ms Bailey said.

“Timings have aligned to secure a boutique venue like Kayo Stadium, where we believe the location, shape and size will produce a world-class track and allow for a bumper crowd, atmosphere, and weekend for fans in the City of Moreton Bay.

“We anticipate the Saturday event selling out, which may leave the door open for another day of racing action.”

Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said he was delighted to welcome supercross riders, event crew and fans to the city.

“We know Australian supercross events are hugely popular for moto-loving fans, this is an incredible opportunity to bring Australia’s best riders and some international stars to Moreton Bay,” Mr Flannery said.

“Given the national and international interest and eyeballs on the championship, it’s a significant occasion for us to showcase everything our fantastic city has to offer.

“From beaches to the hinterland, I’d encourage fans to stay and play in the City of Moreton Bay.”

Tickets went on pre-sale today, with the on-sale to begin on Friday June 14, 2024.
