Models, pranksters, OnlyFans creators: Meet Queensland’s top 100 TikTok content creators

Pranksters, foodie bloggers, adorable doggos and ‘POV’ skit comedians – TikTok’s ‘for you page’ is full of creative content creators, many of which live in the Sunshine State. Meet Qld’s top 100 TikTok stars, ranked.

Aussie stars from The Influencer Index

An app that’s full of viral dances, thirst traps, daily vlogs, POV-skits and cute doggos – it all might sound like a load of gibberish to the uninitiated.

But these trends and videos have all gone insanely viral on TikTok through video content made by the next generation of celebrities in the form of #relatable content creators.

Whether you’re into fishing, makeup tutorials, vegan recipes, parenting tips, slime videos, adorable animals or comedy, there is a side of TikTok for every user, led by a group of top notch content creators with thousands of loyal followers, some of which hail from Australia’s very own Sunshine State.

Twenty-two-year-old Gold Coast local Xanthia Efthymiou known by her TikTok handle @itsxanthiaa, is one of Australia’s most influential TikTok stars, with over 1.9 million followers on the app where she shares what she describes as ‘inspiring, educational and fun’ content.

“Honestly the journey has been so fun, I haven’t been doing content creation for very long but I think I blew up pretty fast on the platform,” Efthymiou said.

“With that came a bit of struggles with online bullying (and) hate but I don’t think I receive as much compared to a lot of creators.

“I definitely think I’m very lucky with the community I’ve created on the app. When you think about it, 1.9m people is a lot of eyes!”

After working at McDonalds for seven years, Xanthia began creating content and realised it was something she could pursue full time after she started receiving sponsors for her videos.

“I was extremely unhappy at my previous job and I truly believe that content creation saved my life and gave me a purpose,” she said.

“One major career highlight was travelling to Thailand for the premier of Glass Onion with my other creator friends Ian and Finn.

“(It) truly was a dream and was so grateful to be apart of it as I got to meet content creators from all around the world.”

With a focus on body positivity, fitness and fashion content, Xanthia rose to viral fame for her videos on her experience living with lipoedema, a chronic condition involving the abnormal accumulation of fat under the skin, creating a painful swelling in the legs, thighs, buttocks and arms for which Xanthia underwent surgery for in 2022.

“My favourite series I’ve done on my account is my lipoedema surgery vlogs,” Efthymiou said.

“Not only because I got to track my own journey and look back on it. The vlogs gained so much attention that thousands of women finally got the diagnosis they needed.

“I receive one-10 messages a day from followers telling me they were diagnosed with lipoedema and wouldn’t have know if it wasn’t for me spreading awareness.

“I find when content makes an impact like that on other people, it goes further than just a viral TikTok, it saves peoples health and gives closure to those struggling with the condition.”

“Most recently I managed to spark an international debate over whether its called a power point or a socket.

“It turned into hilarious series of videos after a bunch of very patriotic Americans took it far too personally. I even got a threat of nuclear warfare out of that one … Wild.” Anne said.

With a following that’s almost twice the population of Townsville, Ashy says that being a top TikTok content creator is like being “a small fish in a very, very big pond”.

“I started making videos in January 2020 and at first it was just a fun way to connect with like minded people,” Anne said.

“As a working mum with no family support network I felt isolated and TikTok really changed that for me.

“It was about mid 2022 while on maternity leave with my second child that I decided I wanted to make a real go of it.

“I knew that returning to my ‘normal’ job would stifle my creativity and I just didn't want to sacrifice that freedom while I had this amazing opportunity in front of me.”

Gaining over 300k followers for her videos sharing an honest and comedic depiction of her life, Ashy has had numerous career highlights, including when she was first recognised in public, getting invited to do a fortnight radio segment and selling out her merchandise.

“Probably the biggest highlight was the day I crunched the numbers and figured out that I didn't need my ‘real’ job anymore. That felt like a huge achievement. I’m still waiting for that red carpet invite though.”

More than half of Gen Z girls said they would quit school or a ‘normal job’ to become an influencer if given the opportunity, with more and more young people wanting to follow in the footsteps of their favourite online celebrities.

Ashy wants to tell young people who want to follow a similar career path that “it’s not always about the numbers”.

“Sure, we love a viral video, but if you want to do this long term you need to create consistent, sustainable content,” Anne said.

“Trends come and go, but building a community of loyal followers comes from being consistent.

“Decide early on who your content is for, why that‘s your audience and remember to keep that audience in mind when you create your content.”
