A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a girl on-board a cruise ship off the Queensland coast this week.
Gateway Child Protection and Investigation Unit detectives arrested the 71-year-old man at the Port of Brisbane Saturday morning. He is accused of assaulting a 14-year-old girl on board the Carnival ship Thursday night.
Police allege the man confronted and grabbed the girl, who was not known to him, near a lift onboard just before 11pm Thursday.
The girl alerted nearby staff, who intervened. She was not physically hurt.
The man was charged with deprivation of liberty and two counts of common assault.
Police have objected to bail and the man is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
