Police discovered the body of the older man after they were called to a property on Redwood St at Marsden about 1am Tuesday.

A 60-year-old woman, the accused’s mother, was not injured.

It is understood the three people are known to each other, with police alleging the assault was related to domestic violence.

Queensland Police Inspector Chris Knight from Logan District Crime Group said it had been a “violent, confronting scene”.

Insp Knight said he could not share what sparked the altercation but described the woman at the scene as “incredibly strong.”

“She has been spoken to by detectives for some couple of hours this morning already,” he said.

Neighbour Chris Fergus said he heard yelling at the house for about 10 minutes before he called police.

“It started to pick up,” he said.

“I couldn’t quite make out what he was saying.”

Mr Fergus said he was shaken up by the overnight events.

“He was quiet and always hands on,” he said of the victim.

Mr Fergus also said he felt for the 67-year-old’s partner.

“I was nervous, I didn’t really know the full story,” he said.

The neighbour said it was not the first time police had been called to the home.

“Knowing that it wasn’t random makes me feel a little more at ease,” he said.

A family member who stopped by to lay flowers said (the victim) was “a loved guy.”

“It’s just really disappointing how it all happened,” they said.

A crime scene has been declared as investigations continue.
