THE annual Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo is shaping to be one of the hottest events on Queensland’s summer social calendar, with the exhibition set to raise the bar in the fashion stakes.

With the Harrolds Fashions on the Field competition a standout feature, Pacific Fair fashion ambassador Yvette Hardy says the event, on January 6 at Doug Jennings Park on the Gold Coast, was a chance to embrace the season’s hottest trends, including the event’s trademark print.

“It’s so different to racing fashion; the dress code is far more relaxed,” she said.

“Think garden party rather than the races.

“Opt for pretty prints, soft colours and floaty styles as they work best, especially on the Gold Coast in the middle of summer.

“A white lace dress is a super hot look to be seen in, and who could forget Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman?

“Polka dots are without a doubt the signature polo print.”

For those determined to look the part, Hardy says comfort is key.

“You don’t want to make the rookie mistake of wearing heels,” she said.

“Steer clear of the stilettos, and opt for a block heel or wedge instead.

“A classic slip-on or flat sandal are also a suitable option.”

Hardy also suggested canning the millinery in favour of a wide-brimmed hat or decorative headscarf.

“The polo is not the right occasion for millinery, so opt for a wide brimmed hat in straw or similar.,” she said.

“It’s a suitable summer fabric that’s perfect for those hot sunny days.

“Try adding a headscarf to the brim for a personal touch, or skip the hat all together and tie a colourful printed scarf around the base of your ponytail instead.”

As for the gents, you have the permission to leave the suit and tie at home.

“Guys can have a lot of fun with their fashion at the polo,” Hardy said.

“It’s a chance to step outside the box. Avoid classic two-piece sets and try mixing and matching your colours and fabrics instead.

“Linen is really on-trend this season. An unbuttoned linen shirt and tan trousers with loafers or boat shoes is a stylish yet casual option for the day.

“For a bit of colour, try adding a blazer in a soft baby pink or green, and add a patterned pocket square into the mix.”

The winner of the women’s Harrolds Fashion on the Field competition will receive a generous prize pool, including five nights’ accommodation for up to eight people at a luxury villa on the Gold Coast, two return economy airfares to Singapore with Singapore Airlines, a three-litre magnum of Moet & Chandon Imperial Jeroboam, plus a $1000 Harrolds gift card and more, while the men’s prize pack includes a three-litre magnum of Moet & Chandon Imperial Jeroboam, $1000 Harrolds gift card and $500 gift card from The Star on the Gold Coast.
