A motorbike rider has been killed in a crash just hours after another catastrophic crash claimed the lives of three teens.
Emergency crews were called to the motorbike crash at the Bruce Highway, Mount Pleasant, in the Mackay region, at 10.15am near the Mackay-Bucasia Rd intersection.
Police have confirmed a 45-year-old man from North Mackay died at the scene.
A witness on scene said he saw the rider lose control of his red motorbike before he launched across two lanes and into oncoming traffic.
“He came through the embankment and got airborne, jumped both lanes and then just straight into the trailer,” he said.
“We were stopped at the lights so there was no traffic coming this way.”
The man said he saw the rider hit his head on the bike’s handlebars which caused him to lose his helmet.
Amy Holloway, who was also at the scene, immediately moved to cover the man’s body with a baby blanket she had in her car.
She said others instead got their phones out to record.
“I’m so sorry to the family.”
A second patient was in a stable condition and taken to the Mackay Hospital.
The QPS spokeswoman said the forensic crash unit would be attending the scene.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said the Mackay-Bucasia Road near the Bruce Highway was closed after the crash and two QFD crews were at the scene and assisting traffic control.
Police confirmed the Mackay-Bucasia Road intersection was reopened at 3.30pm.
It comes as investigations continue into a horror fatal crash on the nearby Mackay Ring Road where three 19-year-olds sadly died on Friday night in a crash believed to have been caused by poor visibility due to fog.
