A crime scene has been declared after an unoccupied two-storey building in Logan was gutted on Sunday.
Queensland Fire crews responded to reports of flames issuing from a building on Linda St, Kingston, at around 5.56am, with four crews attending.
“The initial indication is that no one was inside,” a Queensland Fire Department spokesman said.
“The two-storey home was well involved. The fire was extinguished at 6.20am and crews conducted a search and no one was located inside the property.”
Fire Investigators and Queensland Police remained at the scene Sunday morning to investigate the cause of the blaze.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman later confirmed that the fire was being treated as suspicious and investigations into the cause of the blaze were ongoing.
Neighbour Frank Lagalaga saw the smoke billowing from the two-storey property.
“No one was living in the property, I just saw smoke,” Mr Lagalaga said.
Mr Lagalaga’s partner, who was also home at the time when the fire broke out, said she went to the front of her home and saw flames coming from next door.
“I saw the fire when I went around to the front, they were quite big and spreading,” Ms Lagalaga said.
She said she was concerned for her own home.
“(It) woke us up and we saw the flames and I could smell smoke,” she said.
“There hasn’t been anyone in the property for months.”
At around 11.51am police tape was removed from the front of the property.
