James Edward Woodley extradited to Qld over alleged role in massive drug bust

A British man will be extradited from New Zealand to Queensland over his alleged role in one of the state’s biggest drug busts, which saw authorities seize almost one tonne of ecstasy and methamphetamine.

A British man will be extradited from New Zealand to Queensland over his alleged involvement in one of the state’s biggest drug busts.

During the investigation into the international syndicate police seized 766kg of MDMA powder in Queensland in 2019 while police in New Zealand seized 200kg of methamphetamine.

Men were arrested in Australia and New Zealand over the drugs.

James Edward Woodley, now 54, was arrested in New Zealand in 2019 over the seizure.

He was jailed for nine years for his involvement in the drug syndicate.

The Queensland Police Service says it will allege Woodley was linked to the importation and storage of the seized MDMA in Brisbane before his arrest in New Zealand.

He appeared in Napier District Court on December 13 where detectives successfully applied for his extradition.

He has been charged with possessing dangerous drugs schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding schedule 4 and supplying dangerous drug

He is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

In New Zealand Anthony Charles Netzler was also sentenced to 15 years’ jail for collecting a load of drugs offshore and pleaded guilty to importing methamphetamine, possession of meth for supply and supplying the drug.

Other men in Queensland have been sentenced for their involvement in the syndicate.

Crime and Intelligence Command Detective Superintendent Craig McGrath said the arrest and extradition exemplifies the great partnership between the international policing agencies.

“We’re grateful to our colleagues in New Zealand Police who have worked with us throughout the 2019 investigation and more recently to successfully extradite the man to Queensland,”

“We have zero tolerance for anyone who participates in the trafficking of dangerous drugs and as demonstrated in this case we will hold any alleged offender to account.”
