“Very pleased by how outnumbered the New South Wales supporters are,” Ms Massey said.

“This is my first Origin at the stadium, I’m an Origin virgin.

“We’re so happy the Origin is in Queensland.”

Attendees have estimated there are 95 per cent Maroons supporters in the crowd tonight.

“It’s be 95 per cent Maroons, 5 per cent blues, so 5 per cent winners in the crowd tonight,” Perigian Beach local and Blues fan Ammon Chesworth, 30, said.

Blues supporters and Gold Coast friends Alison Vernon and Tara Lynch said they’d just have to be that much louder to combat the high number of Maroons supporters in the crowd.

“We’ll be louder,” Ms Lynch said.

Covid-safe officers at the stadium are advising fans through a megaphone to don masks, however very few people have complied.

Traffic is very slow in and around the city due to the influx of footy fans, with the 50,000-strong crowd the biggest sporting match in the world since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
