Queensland families planning on ringing in the New Year with a bang are spoiled for choice when it comes to firework displays.
Whether it’s fireworks over the beach or the Brisbane river, or perhaps an earlier display for younger kids there is something for everyone across the Sunshine State this New Year’s Eve.
A standout display is sure to be the Lord Mayor’s New Year’s Eve fireworks in Brisbane’s Southbank parklands.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the theme for this year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks was “Celebrate the bloom of Brisbane.”
Skylighter Fireworks production manager, Dale Norris said a mammoth effort had gone into this year’s display at Southbank as well as 34 other shows from Townsville to Coolangatta
“Our display at Southbank parklands includes two 10 minutes displays, one at 8.30pm and one at midnight,” Mr Norris said.
“They will feature aquatic effects launched from three barges in the Brisbane river, new products such as the rainbow comets and aquatic multi-shot affects that launch into the river before bursting back out.”
Mr Norris said there will be a number of nods to Queensland culture with a purple tribute to jacarandas and a playlist featuring local musicians.
Emporium Hotel South Bank’s general manager, Julie Manega said the hotel is expecting a large crowd this New Year’s Eve following years of Covid restrictions, expecting 800kg of prawns and 5000 bottles of champagne to be consumed.
“Brisbane likes to celebrate New Year's Eve and with unsurpassed views of South Bank, the City and Brisbane River, Emporium Hotel South Bank is one of the hottest tickets in town as locals and visitors enjoy great food, drinks and service to ring in the New Year,” Ms Manega said.
Travel will be free on-board all South East Queensland bus, train, ferry and tram services from 8pm New Years Even until 5.30am on New Year’s Day.
Police have encouraged Queenslanders to prepare their travel arrangements in advance and be patient when moving through large crowds gathering in areas such as Southbank.
While extra resources have been designated to monitor key spots in the city, New Year’s Eve is still expected to be much busier than previous years.
