THE heartbroken parents of Mark “Zeb” Emanuel Spencer will travel to the Gold Coast today after their son’s body was discovered yesterday.
Mr Spencer’s housemate found the father-of-two dead on the back porch of their rural Coomera property in the early hours of the morning after he was apparently bashed to death.
Police were called to a Foxwell Road address about 4am and found Mr Spencer unconscious, not breathing and with serious head injuries.
Attempts to revive the 37-year-old were unsuccessful and detectives and forensic officers quickly secured the scene with homicide investigators also on site.
MAN FOUND DEAD ON BACK VERANDA WITH HEAD INJURIES
Police searched the property to determine the cause of death which they are treating as suspicious.
They spent the day trying to find the weapon used but said there were no suspects at this stage.
Detectives said the attack was “targeted” but ruled out bikie links.
Friends took to social media late yesterday to express their grief at the loss of a man “who lived his life to the fullest”.
“I lost a best friend today ... he was a great father to his kids and has been a mate to my kids and my whole family,” Ann King posted on Facebook.
“He has helped me through so much in my life, he helped me through my teens, my dad’s and grandparents’ passing, my divorce — advice, friendship. He even helped me by taking my lil brother into his home in another state and (there are) many memories I will treasure forever.
“He will always be remembered as a guy who lived his life to the fullest and rode his bikes just as hard.
“Can’t believe the world is so cruel to each other.
“Why do some people have to take another life in their own hands?”
The parents of Mr Spencer, who has two young children from a previous relationship, have been notified and are making their way from northern NSW.
Detective David Hutchinson said they were, understandably, “very, very upset”.
He also said the victim’s flatmate was assisting police with their investigation.
Det Hutchinson said the man was home when Mr Spencer died and had gone to sleep.
“The person who lives in the house is at the police station,” he said.
“He’s providing a full version to detectives.
“He’s not a suspect.
“As you’d expect, he’s pretty traumatised by the whole situation.”
Next-door neighbours were in shock but said they did not know Mr Spencer or his housemate.
“We just saw all the cops when we came to feed the horses,” a woman said.
“I’ve never seen anything like it.
“That sort of stuff doesn’t happen in Coomera.”
Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area or saw vehicles acting suspiciously between 12am and 4am on Wednesday October 1.
