Dreamworld unveils new virtual reality attraction Sky Voyager

DREAMWORLD’S new $17 million virtual reality ride will take guests on a journey over Aussie icons including Surfers Paradise and Sydney Harbour as the theme park ramps up efforts to win back the public.
To be called the Sky Voyager, the attraction, which will open in time for the summer holidays, is the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and is the most significant investment at the park since the Thunder River Rapids tragedy which claimed four lives.
The 2016 disaster, and the harrowing inquest that has followed, have been major blows to the Dreamworld brand, but theme park officials are hopeful the new attraction will turn the tide.
The state-of-the-art simulator features an electrical motion platform with six gondolas of 10 seats each suspending in front of a giant dome screen.
The flying experience combines airborne motion-programmed seating with live action footage and special sensory effects such as swooping, diving, gliding and jetting over and around spectacular Australian landscapes.
Guests will glide over the ocean towards Surfers Paradise, soar above Sydney Harbour, hover above a white water raft on the Tully River in far north Queensland and float among hot air balloons in South Australia’s Barossa Valley. Developed in partnership between Dreamworld owner Ardent Leisure and leading simulation company, Brogent Technologies Inc, Sky Voyager is the first of a host of new rides and attractions being rolled out at Dreamworld over the next 12 to 18 months.
Dreamworld general manager of marketing Philip Hancox said the Sky Voyager would quickly become a favourite at the theme park.
“The excitement is certainly building here at Dreamworld as we get closer to opening this state-of-the-art attraction, which will be a favourite for all ages,” he said.
“Sky Voyager is the prefect name, as it will take guests on an Australia voyage by air, creating a truly unforgettable experience.”
Dreamworld has also partnered with leading travel company Experience Oz, who will be an ambassador for the ride.
