An infamous former cruise ship crooner charged with the murder of his cheerleader girlfriend has pleaded guilty to the indecent treatment of a 14-year-old girl.

Jayden Moorea, formerly known as Dan Shearin, faced Southport District Court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to two counts of procuring a child to commit an indecent act and three counts of attempting to procure a child to commit an indecent act over an online exchange with an underage girl.

Moorea was arrested in August over allegations he had engaged in sexually explicit online exchanges with a girl 34 years his junior.

In a series of messages he encouraged her to send sexual images and videos, told her she could start an OnlyFans account and discussed how she could visit him at his house.

At the time, Moorea was on bail awaiting trial for the alleged murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend Breeana Robinson, a former Gold Coast Titans cheerleader whom police allege was thrown to her death from his Southport apartment balcony in 2013.

Moorea has long maintained he did not throw Breeana to her death and the two cases are not linked in any way.

In documents submitted to the court in Moorea’s failed Supreme Court bail application over the indecent treatment charges, police alleged he listed a job advertisement on Gumtree seeking letterbox delivery drivers.

The child responded on August 15 asking for work but said she did not have a driver’s licence as she was only 14.

Police allege the pair moved their conversation from Gumtree to text messages after exchanging phone numbers and Moorea sent the girl a photo of himself with the words: “me so you know who I am” before allegedly asking her to send him a picture of herself.

After she did as asked, the now 49-year-old Moorea then allegedly sent the girl text messages saying “wow”, “gorgeous” and “your boobs look like they want to bust out of that top lol”.

Police allege after further conversation, the teenager told Moorea she was feeling “horny” and he replied with messages saying “I’d say prove it but I’d better not” before telling her “Up to you though”.

Court documents state the victim then sent Moorea two videos of herself performing sex acts on herself.

Police allege Moorea replied to the videos by sending a number of messages including “Holy f---”, “Those are incredible boobs. So huge.”

The girl’s Gumtree account was linked to her school email account which monitored inappropriate content and police from the Child Protection Investigation Unit were notified a short time later.

Acting for Moorea on behalf of Hannay Lawyers, defence barrister Angus Edwards described the offending as “a low level example of a serious offence”.

Judge Jodie Wooldridge imposed a sentence of nine months in jail to be suspended immediately as Moorea had already served 103 days in custody.

He would trigger the remainder of the sentence if he commits another offence in the next 12 months.
