A woman who was left fighting for life after she was allegedly stabbed while working at a supermarket says she feels it was a “miracle” she survived after being on the “edge of death”.

Claudia Campomayor Watt, 63, was working at Coles when a 13-year-old boy allegedly stabbed her with a large knife about 5.25pm on January 13 at Yamanto Shopping Centre.

She was rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition with injuries to her abdomen and was in intensive care for sometime.

Speaking for the first time since the alleged attack, Ms Campomayor Watt said she was extremely grateful for all the first responders involved and the people who helped her after the incident.

“It is a miracle that I survived. To tell you the truth, I was on the edge of death. That’s what I call it,” Ms Campomayor Watt said.

“It was a struggle and because of my faith, I guess I survived and because of my strong will to survive.

“So that’s why I am here, I am recovering well, but I’m not fully recovered yet. It will take a while for me to recover.”

Ms Campomayor Watt said had been wanting to thank people across Australia who prayed for her since the incident.

“I think their prayer was very powerful,” she said.

“I know because of them praying, I survived. I would have been gone if no one up there was looking after me.”

Ms Campomayor Watt said she was doing “okay” since the incident.

“I’m doing okay. My recovery is slow, I can’t really put time on when I’ll be healed properly, but at the moment, I’m doing very well,” she said.

“I am still sore because it’s very hard to recover from those things. I’m still a bit sore but I am getting there.

“I came home like nine days later. I really wanted to get out of hospital and I didn’t want to stay there and my surgeons thought the best way to recover was at home.”

She said it was a struggle at home but she only got through it thanks to her family.

“I survived and I got my family who helped me all the way through,” she said.

“We are a very big family, we are seven sisters and two brothers, one of which is in the Philippines, they are alternating on helping me.”

Police allege the attack was random and he acted alone.

The boy has since been charged with attempted murder and the matter has been mentioned at Ipswich Children’s Court.

He was remanded in custody on the attempted murder charge- for which he has made no application for bail at this stage. He has not yet entered a plea.
