Palmer cancels National Press Club address due to COVID-19 symptoms

Clive Palmer hascancelled his highly-advertised National Press Club event after developing what he says are “Covid-like symptoms”.

The mining magnate and political hopeful was due to make the address in Canberra on Tuesday afternoon.

But the NPC, in a tweet on Tuesday morning, said it had been informed Mr Palmer had been directed not to travel as he had Covid-like symptoms.

“Therefore today’s address has been cancelled,” the NPC tweeted.

Mr Palmer, who is unabashedly unvaccinated against Covid-19 despite being in the high-risk category, had widely advertised his press club address across Australia’s newspapers.

The ABC, which normally runs press club addresses live on its news channel, had already made the decision to delay broadcast due to concerns regarding Mr Palmer’s dangerous anti-vaccination views.

Mr Palmer is the lead senate candidate for the United Australia Party in Queensland.

Mr Palmer, when he announced his senate bid in January, flagged no expense would be spared at the upcoming election, signalling the UAP’s spend could eclipse the $83m dished out in 2019.

“In February, we will commence the largest and most extensive political campaign in the nation’s history,” he said.

“And I don’t think we have any problems raising money, or having money or having the necessary financial resources.”
