A group of brazen youths wielding a machete attempted to break into multiple homes on Monday night in Morningside, just a two-minute drive from the local police station.
Video footage captured by a homeowner shows two cars arriving in front of an Algoori Street property before three people exit the vehicles.
One of the youths was captured carrying a machete, while another appeared to be checking if the door of a car in the driveway of the property was unlocked.
Resident Tom Kralikas said shortly after the footage was captured, the group broke into his Beelarong Street home.
“I had two young boys asleep in their room as these three got into my house,” he said.
“I was startled by my front door creaking open around 11.35pm. I immediately knew something was wrong and ran towards my front door. Two to four youths ran into a grey car parked out the front.
“I yelled and chased them out, and they scattered like rats. I am shocked that they are armed with a machete, could’ve been a very different story for me last night.”
