Playboy Gold Coast businessman Travers ‘The Candyman’ Beynon has had an early win in his defamation case against a neighbour he accused of calling him an ‘ignorant a**hole’ and ‘weak as piss’.
The Free Choice tobacco empire boss sued neighbour James Blackledge, who lives in the River Cove estate where Mr Beynon shares his luxurious ‘Candy Shop Mansion’ with his wife and live-in girlfriends , for $30,000 in damages.

Mr Beynon claimed his neighbour damaged his reputation and caused him hurt and embarrassment through a series of emails in 2017 and 2018 to other residents.
Lawyers for Mr Blackledge had argued that the claim should be thrown out of court because he ought not to have been able to use the emails obtained in another case to sue for defamation.
Mr Blackledge’s lawyers also argued that the defamation claim was launched outside time limits.
But Southport District Court Judge David Kent ruled in Mr Beynon’s favour, allowing him to continue the lawsuit.
Mr Blackledge’s lawyer, Campbell MacCallum, said he was a ‘bit disappointed’ but did not believe the defamation claim was valid.
“On that basis we’ll still be defending the matter with instructions to file pleadings almost immediately,” he said.
