A derelict Brisbane home listed for “above $699,000” has laid bare the severity of Queensland’s housing crisis, with graffitied walls, mouldy interiors, and a junk-filled yard.
Located at 62 Blaker Road, Mitchelton, in the city’s northwest the property is advertised with the headline “detonate or renovate”.
When a RealEstate.com listing suggests these options you know the house needs major work, and the photos don’t hold back.
The 412sqm two-bedroom and one-bathroom home is being sold “as is, where is”.
Looking on the bright side, the courageous buyer would become the owner of several bottles of BBQ sauce, a tiger print blanket, a half-drunk bottle of Coca-Cola, a Coles shopping basket and a Christmas wreath.
For sale through Denovan’s Real Estate, an agent said the price point of the property hadn’t been seen since 2016.
“Forget apartment living - own your own home and land,” the listing said.
“Offering a rare opportunity to put your creative vision to work.
“Whether you’re looking to renovate or rebuild, this is your chance to create something special in a vibrant locale.”
The kitchen poses as a clean freak’s worst nightmare with crumbled shelves, doorless cupboards and graffiti sprayed on every wall.
The shattered windows have been covered with cardboard while the walls appear to be peeling away.
A RealEstate.com spokesman confirmed that the median Mitchelton house price in 2025 was $1,115,000, after a 10.9 per cent increase over the last 12 months.
The agent said the property was “perfectly positioned”.
“The convenience is second to none,” an agent said.
“While the home needs some love, the location makes it a standout option for savvy buyers looking to build equity and secure a lifestyle of convenience.
“Properties like this don’t come around often, don’t miss your chance to enter the Mitchelton market at an unbeatable price point,” he said.
