With the Paris Olympic opening ceremony just days away support for Aussie athletes began over 16,000 kilometres away.

In the lead up to France’s Olympic & Paralympic Games, Brisbane 2032 organisers wanted to cheer on our green and gold athletes while reminding the world Brisbane and Queensland is getting ready to host in eight years.

Brisbane 2032 President Andrew Liveris encouraged communities from all corners of the country to record the quintessential Australian shout out ‘Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! – Oi! Oi! Oi!’ to athletes throughout the Games and upload them with the hashtag #brisbane2032.”

“We’re encouraging anyone and everyone to get involved – school kids, sports clubs, businesses, community groups; whoever you are, wherever you are, let’s create the loudest digital Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! cheer on record,” he said.

First time Paralympian, wheelchair basketballer Eithen Leard said he hoped as many Australians as possible would get behind their athletes in Paris, cheering them on whenever and wherever possible.

“As Aussies, we love our sport and we support one another, especially when it comes to the Olympics and Paralympics,” Mr Leard said.

“This is an opportunity to unite as a nation in a simple but effective way in a Games year, igniting that Aussie pride we are known and loved for around the world.”

Mr Liveris said the launch of the nationwide cheer on Brisbane 2032’s own eight years to go milestone would also act as a worldwide invitation ahead of 2032.

“With eight years’ to go until our very own Games, now is the time to raise our voice as one and let everyone know that Brisbane, Queensland and Australia are getting ready to host the world’s biggest sporting event in 2032,” he said.
