A 27-year-old man arrested over the alleged murder of Andrew Walsh will be extradited to Brisbane after facing court in New South Wales.

Police allege Mr Walsh’s body was discovered encased in concrete at a Coopers Plains transport depot at some point during the three-week of the crime scene, which concluded on Monday.

Australian Federal Police officers arrested the man as he allegedly attempted to flee the country out of Sydney International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Queensland Police confirmed the man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday charged with one offence of accessory after the fact of murder.

Detectives began investigating his disappearance as a suspected homicide after descending on the business in relation to another missing man – Lachlan Griffiths.

Mr Griffiths’ body has not been found but police have charged 40-year-old Filip Grbavac with his murder.

It is not suggested that Mr Grbavac was involved in any way in relation to Mr Walsh’s death.

“Earlier this afternoon, a 27-year-old man was apprehended at Sydney International Airport (and) will be subject to extradition proceedings,” Detective Acting Inspector Chris Knight said.

He revealed the arrest had been made after police discovered Mr Walsh’s body “encased in concrete” at the Coopers Plains business.

Andrew Christopher Walsh was reported missing by family in Mossman in January this year.

“An extensive excavation was undertaken, which resulted in the recovery of Andrew Walsh’s body,” Det Insp Knight said.

“Police have a short time ago returned to the crime scene at Coopers Plains and we intend to conduct further targeted forensic examination overnight tonight.

“The body of Lachlan Griffiths remains outstanding at this time.

“Despite these developments, detectives continue to appeal to members of the public or anybody in the community that may have information into either of these investigations, please come forward.

“Both of these investigations are far from over and our detectives remain committed to bringing anybody involved in either of those investigations to justice.

“Our thoughts go out to … the families of our victims.”

Police are yet to find the body of Lachlan Griffiths.

Police have previously said Mr Walsh, 35, and Mr Griffiths, 35, were “mixing within the same circles of people” but were not necessarily known to each other.

Det Insp Knight said police were investigating whether Mr Griffiths was killed at the depot and his body taken elsewhere.

A boat at the depot has undergone forensic examination.

He said Mr Walsh’s body was found underneath concrete that had been poured in the Mulgrave Rd workshop.

“An area of the workshop was excavated and there was a large amount of concrete that was drilled and excavated,” he said.

“It was encased in concrete.

“That location has now been returned to the managers and owners of that address.”

Mr Walsh, who had been living in the Logan area, was reported missing in January but police have established he was last seen alive on November 7.

Mr Griffiths, from Indooroopilly, we last seen at the Meriton Suites on Herschel St in the Brisbane CBD on January 17.
