VOTING is serious business, but don’t let the political hype overshadow the importance of the sausage sandwich on election day.
After slipping a vote into the ballot box, give your brain a rest from the election debate and snag yourself a snag at the nearly 100 sausage sizzle stalls set up at various polling booths over the Gold Coast.

Heck, why not grasp the opportunity and fuel up for breakfast in addition to the token post-vote sausage feed. It’s un-Australian not to have at least two. We’re sure Campbell Newman does it.
Besides, how often is there a barbie around every corner?
While you don’t need much incentive to jump at the chance for a $2 lunch, the underlying objective of the sausage sizzle is to celebrate our democracy, encourage participation in the democratic process and offer support for community groups and volunteers that run sausage sizzles and stalls on election day, as it is an important means of fundraising for these individuals.
St Benedicts Catholic Church in Mudgeeraba and Robina State School have gone the extra mile and brought in a cake stall to their election day setup, while Robina School are also catering for the many vegetarians on the Coast.
Up to 20 volunteers are rostered on at selected food stalls, and they’re prepared to cater for hungry crowds.
Gold Coast Fresh Meat Centre in Burleigh admitted to receiving an influx of bulk orders this week in the lead up, while Coles and Woolworths have also been hit with massive sausage orders.
