TWO Southport election candidates held an election debate in the Gold Coast Bulletin office this morning. Replay it below.

Southport candidates - sitting MP Rob Molhoek (LNP) and hopeful Rowan Holzberger (ALP) -know they’re in for a battle this election weekend and took the chance to connect with Gold Coast voters today.

The two debated state and electorate issues, with some of Southport’s biggest including the future of the former Gold Coast hospital, the light rail extension, traffic congestion and perhaps the most important — the proposed $7.5 billion Wavebreak Island project.

Mr Molhoek is a former city councillor, the Assistant Minister for Planning Reform and has held this seat since 2012. He is married with four sons.

Mr Holzberger has worked in the agricultural sector as well as insurance and has a young family.
