PREMIER Campbell Newman says Gold Coast traffic is worse than capital city Brisbane but he again refused to give away if he’ll extend the light rail.
Mr Newman was quizzed about the crucial light rail link to heavy rail when he appeared on SeaFM just after 8.30am.
But he would not be drawn on making too many announcements in one day.
“There’s 11 days to go. We are talking roads and tourism jobs today,” he said.
“(Transport) Minister Emerson will talk about road upgrades today ... I reckon Gold Coast traffic is worse than Brisbane.”
$1.5B FIX FOR COAST’S WORST ROAD
Mr Newman was referring to an election promise revealed exclusively in the Gold Coast Bulletin this morning that Bundall Road would be widened to six lanes, Nerang St stretched to four and major intersections across the Coast upgraded if the LNP is re-elected.
Mr Newman took the chance to speak out about the proposed cruise ship terminal on Wavebreak Island saying it must pass environmental tests but it would be good for jobs.
“Can I remind you, if you keep saying no to any sort of proposal, you don’t have jobs,” he said.
“I’m not aware of any proposal in Queensland where there are not some groups saying no.”
He again said it was Mayor Tom Tate’s pet project and the State Government was just providing the framework.
