THE weather was the only downer when Kate Jones made the trip down the M1 for the first time today as Minister for almost everything Gold Coast.
Four days after being sworn in as Tourism, Commonwealth Games and Education Minister, Ms Jones met with industry heavyweights at the top of the Q1 building in Surfers Paradise this morning.
There was not much of a view, thanks to the overcast conditions, but that did not stop Ms Jones from outlining a positive vision for the city during the trip.
“I am committing to you that I will be a regular face on the Gold Coast,” she said.
“I come to the Gold Coast with one clear message — the Palasczcuk Government is committed to driving tourism growth.
“I believe that the strength of tourism on the Gold Coast is vital to the strength of Queensland and I want to work with you to grow it.”
Ms Jones went on to say that she and the government were determined to deliver the best Commonwealth Games in the event’s history.
The message was well received by Gold Coast Tourism boss Paul Donovan and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games chairman Nigel Chamier, who warmly welcomed Ms Jones.
She later met with other city leaders at a lunch function hosted by Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.
