A 400m pier will be built off Kirra Beach if independent candidate for Currumbin Andy Semple gets the vote.
Mr Semple wants a feasibility study done on the possibility of building a pier off the popular beach.
“Our greatest asset is our beautiful coastline,” Mr Semple said.
“Presently there are only two ways to enjoy the view either from the shoreline or from watercraft.”
The pier, which Mr Semple does not list a cost, is among his top four priorities in the upcoming election.
Other priorities include upgrading the M1 to at least three lanes from exit 85 to 95, expanding heavy rail to Coolangatta Airport and solving the PFAS contamination plaguing the Bilinga and Tugun area.
The independent is up against two strong candidates with LNP MP Jann Stuckey holding the seat with a 5.7 per cent margin.
Challenger ALP’s Georgi Leader is expected to give Ms Stuckey some competition on polling day after Ms Stuckey fell out with community group Friends of Currumbin.
Mr Semple has had a colourful time as a candidate, resigning from the One Nation party in December last year.
“I resigned because James Ashby, not the media or anyone else from the public, didn’t like this throw away tweet I posted,” he said.
The tweet shows a photo of a shirt with the letters LGBT, under each of the letters is a picture of the statue of liberty, a gun, a glass of beer and a pair of breast.
“Now that’s an LGBT I can get behind,” Mr Semple captioned the photo.
“Queue Pink Mafia Outrage in 3, 2, 1 ...”
Mr Semple said he did not receive any contact about the tweet from the party about it apart from a text message.
“It then dawned on me the PHONY isn’t the party I thought it was,” he said.
“They may claim to be believers in freedom of individual expression but they’re not.
“They are unbelievable control freaks.”
It has been previously reported Mr Semple resigned from the party due to backlash from his comments about Muslims and women.
Mr Semple said he ran for parliament because he believed neither major party had the “courage or smarts” to do what is best.
