A SPILL motion against state LNP leader Lawrence Springborg is doomed to fail according to the party’s Gold Coast MPs, who say probable challenger Tim Mander does not have the numbers.
Members from opposing camps were hitting the phones for support last night after Mr Springborg brought the leadership tensions to a head by calling for a partyroom meeting in Brisbane on Friday morning.
Former deputy premier and Callide MP Jeff Seeney called the spill motion to declare the party’s leadership positions vacant.
However, the Gold Coast Bulletin has been told most of the Gold Coast’s MPs are unlikely to support it.
Party insiders last night said they were not confident the motion would even gain the necessary 21 votes to declare the positions of Mr Springborg and Deputy John-Paul Langbroek vacant.
